Pre Poo treatments

Pre Poo or Pre Shampoo treatments are applied to dry hair prior to shampooing to increase moisture and strength. Since

traditional shampoo is known to be very harsh and stripping to the hair the pre poo treatment is done before you shampoo to combat the feeling of dryness experienced afterwards.

Pre Poo treatments can be made with a blend of oils and conditioner or both.

Pre Poo Recipes:

Possible moisturizing oil combinations for your next pre poo

  • Coconut oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Castor Oil and Coconut OiL
  • Castor Oil and  Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera Gel
  • warm honey,Extra Virgin olive oil, and castor oil

The combinations are literally endless and it depends on what oils and butters your hair tends to like. The pre poo treatment is a great way to be creative and delve into mixing up your own handmade goodies for your hair.

How to do a Pre Poo Treatment on Natural Hair:

Ingredients:

  • plastic cap or plastic grocery bag
  • oil mixtures

Instructions:

  1. Separate dry hair into four sections
  2. Gently finger comb each section to remove any tangles
  3. Take mixture of your favorite oils and butters and apply it to each section of hair making sure to saturate each section with the oil mixture.
  4. Put plastic cap or plastic bag on your head.
  5. Leave mixture on for a minimum of 15 minutes but this can be left on overnight for maximum moisture.
  6. Rinse oil mixture out of hair with warm water.
  7. Apply small amount of shampoo and wash hair as you normally would.
