Natural Hair Styles: Braid Out

braid outs, braidouts, braidout, braid out picturesBraid outs were probably one of the first natural hair styles you wore as a child unknowingly. Remember the days when your mother or grandmother would plait your hair to last all week and then on Sunday you could finally wear your hair “out”

Aww those were the days. The same method applies today for naturals (but with a more grown up flair lol) Braid outs is the sister style to Twist outs. The only difference is that Twist outs give natural hair a more curly look while braids outs tend to be more wavy.I love braid outs for the fun, beach wavy hair look they give. Braid outs just scream summer fun!

Braid out for transitioning from relaxed to natural hair

Braid outs were my go to hair style when I was transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. I would wash, condition, detangle and braid my hair every week. The results were easy maintenance on my part and it helped blend the hair seamlessly. I would then accessorize the style with different headbands, flowers, etc.

How to do a braid out:

1.Wash, Condition, Detangle

For a more defined wave pattern it is best to complete this step at least one night before you would like to wear the braid out to give your hair ample time to air dry. Use a wide tooth comb or tangle teezer to detangle your hair while conditioner is still on.

Products Needed:

  • Leave in Conditioner
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Satin Bonnet
  • Styling Aid
  • Oil
  • Satin Rollers ( if transitioning)

Suggested Products:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Jane CarterĀ  Solution Twist & Lock
  • Bee Mine Moisturizing Daily Conditioner
  • Organic Root Stimulator Lock and Twist Gel

2.Styling

  1. Begin by finger parting your hair in four sections. Apply leave in conditioner all over hair.
  2. Starting with one section first apply styling aid to a 1-2 inch piece of hair and begin to braid.

TIP: Braid your hair with the end style already in mind. If you want a part on the left side do it in the beginning around that area.

3. (If transitioning)- place satin rollers at the the bottom of the braids to ensure the braids stay secure while you sleep.

4. Once the whole head of hair is braided place satin bonnet over hair and sleep.

5. When you are ready to take down the braids place oil of choice on your hands and saturate the braid to reduce frizziness. Take each braid down and fluff.

RESULTS: sexy, full. romantic wavy natural hair!

You can wear your braidout just out or use it as a base for other natural hair styles.
