The vision for my company is to become a huge competitor in the Natural Hair and Skin Care markets both nationally and internationally.
It all began as a mission to find a product to heal the damage caused to my oldest daughter’s hair back in 2001. At the time there weren’t many, if any natural products on the market. Initially, I tried using what I would to restore healthy hair on teens and adults. I had no clue what to use on a toddlers’ hair. I begin heavy research on ingredients and began eliminating products. Eventually, I started to using individual ingredients, that worked but where not a total package. I prayed about it and this heavenly mix called Healthy Hair Whip was born. I used it on my oldest hair only and in 3 months she had more hair than she ever had. Then my middle child cut both sides of her hair to the scalp. I started using the Healthy Hair Whip on her scalp and 5 months later her sides were down past her shoulders and on its way back to her original long length. I did two test markets, one with family and friends, and then I branched out to a consumer market. Once I got the approvals, I became insured and here I am today.
In two years I would like to see my company in all the local stores and some national chain stores. I would like to have a strong presence in the market and have generated a lot of positive buzz.
It is a major goal of mine to support black owned businesses. As stated on the Russ Parr Morning Show in Feb 2011, there are a lot of people that count black businesses out before they get a real chance to impress. There is such a huge stereotype regarding black owned businesses and the BOBs have to kick out more of their own money, work harder, do more by themselves to start making a positive imprint on society. Other businesses can have lousy customer service, high prices, rude employees, you name it and they will still get referrals, repeat customers and people making excuses for them.
Having loved and styled hair since I was a child, hair care our specialty. Chaner Natural believes in using high quality ingredients to present all natural luxury products to consumers. Our product of choice is the Healthy Hair Whip. This divinely created product is designed to promote growth, aide in restoring the health of your scalp and protect your strands. This product is truly versatile in that you can use this product simply to treat your scalp, directly on the strands to moisturize and add shine to your protective styles, as well as a heat protectant during flat ironing. The Healthy Hair Whip can also be used on childrens hair for styling and restoring healthy hair. All of Chaner Natural products work well for both relaxed and natural hair. I have a few relaxed customers that swear by Chaner Natural.
Technically, this would be my third time transitioning to natural. The third time was the charm and was inspired by my oldest daughter. She decided to be natural because she did not like getting relaxers. I gave her the summer to think about it while I kept protective styles in her hair and treated her scalp with the Healthy Hair Whip. She loved the growth and the protective styles. In support of her, I decided to go natural so she wouldn’t be alone, although technically, I would have been the only one not natural.
A day in the life of this CEO is quite unorthodox for a CEO. I wish I could say I wake up and it’s business, business, business, but it isn’t. I wake up; give my time to GOD, then go straight into wife/mommy mode. This lasts all day as I only get to drop two off at school and the 3 year old comes with me. I usually return home, fix her breakfast because she refused to wake up earlier to eat with the others. At about 10 am, I sit down to the computer. This time is usually interrupted by the little one several times. It’s unfortunate for the little one because Dora is her sitter while I’m on the computer and I am the back up. At around 12 I fix lunch then I go into the lab if necessary. Around 1:30 I make phone calls and send out emails that I didn’t get to in the am and at 2:30 I leave to pick up the family. At around 10 pm, I resume work sometime between 12 and 1 am. Then it’s lights off to start again tomorrow.
