Mixed Chicks suing Sally Beauty Supply for Mixed Silk products
Two weeks ago owners of Mixed Chicks, Kim Etheredge and Wendi Levy filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California against Sally Beauty Supply for their eerily similar products Mixed Silk by Silk Elements. In a press statement issued Levy and Etheredge are claiming that Sally’s new line infringes on their trademark and appearance.
According to Black Enterprise Etheredge stated, ”When something’s yours you protect it,”“It’s ours and we feel we have to protect our brand in any way possible”.
I definitely agree with the owners, as a PR consultant branding is essential. For product manufacturers its the deciding factor when a customer is able to identify your product among the hundreds of others on the shelf. It’s the main reason we all know Tony the Tiger is Frosted Flakes instead of Flaky O’s in the grocery store. Not only does the Mixed Silk cause confusion as people may wonder if this is a knock off or another line from Mixed Chicks but the Mixed Silk prices are comparably cheaper.
$7.19 12 oz
10.99 8 oz
Would you be able to tell the difference? or would you go for the cheaper one with more product?

They look far different to me… are the ingredients the same?
They look different, the ingredients are a little different, but the concept is the same. The ingredients aren’t even listed on the Mixed Chicks website! All it states is the “Key ingredient: Safflower Oil”…I had to retrieve their ingredients from a different site that was selling their products. First of all this is NOT the “key” ingredient or else it would have been listed #2 on the list (waters always #1); just like with the Mixed Silk, if they were boasting their “key” natural ingredient (Rosa Canina Seed) it would’ve been listed on the top as well.
My hair loves the Mixed Silk and would probably like to Mixed Chicks as well, but i opted to go the less expensive route…Nothing wrong with that Ms. Kim Etheredge and Ms. Wendi Levy.
Well in my opinion I can tell them apart. They both work great on my hair but, I’m only 16 I don’t have a big paying job and sometimes I want to spend my money on other things that aren’t as expensive as the mixed chicks. There is nothing wrong with mixed chicks but, I do wish that they were more LESS expensive until then I’m settling for the cheaper product..
actually i thought it was the same product i would sue. #personally #tooclose only way i wouldnt if it was for something diff like lotion is the product for the same thing then yes would sue
